Overhanging trees and overgrown bushes can cause damage to vehicles such as the street sweeper and garbage trucks and are a nuisance to pedestrians walking on the sidewalk as well as a hazard to traffic if signs are obstructed. Property owners are responsible for maintaining trees and vegetation on their property to City Standards so that it does not encroach into streets and sidewalks. During the winter months, when most trees and shrubs are dormant, the street maintenance crews are out trimming areas seen as overgrown or hazardous.
City Standards (Click HERE to see the Municipal Code regarding street tree standards)
Keep trees trimmed to a height of at least 8 feet over sidewalks and 14 feet above local streets.
Keep shrubs trimmed so they don't overhang onto the sidewalks or streets.
Keep all trees and vegetation from obstructing the sight triangle at intersections and keep shrubs that are planted close to the corner trimmed so they are no higher than 3 1/2 feet high for better visibility.
