The City of Central Point will have the following positions on the november 5, 2024 election.

Requirements
At the time of election to City office, a candidate must be:
- A qualified elector as defined in Section 2, Article II of the Oregon Constitution, and;
- Shall have been a resident within the city limits of the City of Central Point for the twelve-month period immediately preceding the November 5, 2024, election.
- A candidate seeking office for a Ward position must be a resident of the ward for which they file. (See ward map).
- Candidates are required to gather a minimum of verified 20 signatures from registered voters in their Ward. The City Recorder will take the signature sheets to the Jackson County Elections office for verification, these need to be turned in Tuesday, August 20th by 3:00 p.m.
The City election is regulated by state election law and the City of Central Point City Charter and Ordinances. Candidates are required to comply with the election requirements of these regulations. Election forms and petitions must be completed properly and submitted within the designated filing period. The City must reject filings that are incomplete or improperly submitted. Deficient election forms or petitions may be corrected and resubmitted within the designated period.
Central Point Municipal Code 2.10.010 (D) designates the City Recorder as the Elections Official.
2024 Filing Period
Wednesday , June 5, 2024, through Monday, August 27, 2024 during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The City Recorder usually takes lunch between 12:30 and 1:30.
All election forms and petitions should be filed in advance of the final filing day so that the City has enough time to review the forms for completeness and the County can verify the signatures on petitions. Please note that Jackson County's cutoff date for submitting signature sheets is Tuesday August 20th. If deficiencies in the election forms and petitions are found, they must be corrected and resubmitted to the City Recorder by the close of business on the final filing day August 28, 2024 by 4:00 pm.

City Elections Procedures
Elected City Officials serve four year terms, and the election for these positions are held in November of every other year during the State General Election. The next election for City Officials will be November 5, 2024. The positions up for election will be Mayor, Ward IV, and two At-Large Council positions.

All forms and instructions on filing for a City Office are available through the City Recorder's Office in City Hall at 140 S. 3rd Street or by calling 541-423-1015. (Forms will not be made available electronically).
PLEASE NOTE: NO political activity can be conducted without filing proper paperwork with the City Recorder first.
Political Sign Requirements
CPMC, Chapter 15.24.060.
B. The following types of signs if located entirely on private property shall be exempt from permit requirements, but shall conform to all other applicable provisions of this code:
3. Political Campaign Signs. Signs or posters not exceeding five square feet in display surface, announcing candidates seeking political office. Such signs shall be removed ten days after the election for the office sought;

2. Sign Requirements. Signs within the TOD district or corridor shall comply with the standards in Table 17.67.050(1).
Maximum number of temporary signs in the LMR, MMR and HMR zoning districts is two (2) and the EC and GC zoning district is four (4). The time limit is 120 days or ten days after the election whichever is first.
All signs must be placed on private property with the owner’s permission only. No signs are permitted without permission or on public property including, but not limited to, intersections, in planter strips or in the public right-of-way.
“Temporary sign” includes any sign, banner, pennant, valance or advertising display constructed of cloth, canvas, light fabric, cardboard, wallboard or other light materials, with or without frames, intended to be displayed for a limited period of time.
Type of Government
The City of Central Point operates under a "Council/Manager" form of government. The Council consists of a Mayor and six councilors. Two Council Members are elected from the City at large, while the other four are elected from Wards which divide the City into four sections. The Mayor serves as presiding officer and is a voting member of the Council. He has the authority to preserve order, enforce the rules and determine the order of business at the Council meetings. If the Mayor is not present at a meeting, the Council President presides.
The City Council is the legislative branch of Central Point's Municipal government, the people's elected representatives. Council meetings are open public meetings where the Council makes local laws, policies and basic decisions for the municipality. The Council meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 140 S. 3rd Street, Central Point OR 97502. Council Study Session's are scheduled for the 3rd Monday of each month (call for correct date and time).
The City Council appoints the City Manager whose responsibilities include enforcement of Ordinances and preparation of the annual budget, along with administration and coordination of the City's operations. The City Manager hires Department Directors to assist him in carrying out his duties.
