Primary Areas of Focus

General Street Maintenance
The street maintenance crews focus on maintaining the City's improved and unimproved streets to minimize hazards to motorists as well as pedestrians and bicyclists. Regular maintenance includes keeping the surface clean by sweeping on a regular basis, repairing potholes, maintaining street striping and street legends, maintaining and upgrading signs, trimming of the Urban Forest, and making sure the street lights are working and more.

Sign Maintenance
Sign maintenance is an ongoing program to keep signs up to federal regulations. The colors fade with age which requires replacement and sometimes new federal regulations mandate an upgrade. Trees and vegetation block visibility and some signs get stolen or damaged from vehicle accidents. We are on a constant vigil of our signs and take appropriate action when the need arises.

Street Lights
In an effort to keep the streets from being dark, the City owned street lights are quickly repaired whenever public works is informed of a problem. Most repairs are done in 2-3 days. A regular "Street Light Patrol" is performed every three months in an effort to find any lights that are either not working or burning during daylight hours.

Right of Way Maintenance
There are open areas that are owned by the City that need to be maintained to prevent them from becoming overgrown and unsightly. The street maintenance crews mow these areas as needed and try to manage the growth of weeds by spraying with herbicides. Other right of ways include pedestrian paths that cut through City blocks offering shortcuts for students going to school, a park or even just to the next street. Maintenance crews work to keep these paths clean and serviceable.
