Potholes
Like every entity with paved streets, we face an ongoing task of fixing potholes as they develop on our aging streets, particularly during the wet winter months. Our crews are familiar with the areas where potholes show up and check these areas on a regular basis to make repairs but sometimes a pothole will just appear unexpectedly in a new place and it may take our crews some time to notice it.
Alleys
Alleys, like any other unpaved street or road, need regular maintenance or it soon becomes unusable. Several times a year we check all the alleys to see which need potholes filled, need to be reshaped, or need a bit more rock on them. In early spring, we spray the alley right-of-ways with herbicides to eliminate growth of weeds and grass and in the late spring or early summer, our crews trim back the new growth on threes and shrubs so that the big tanker truck can negotiate the alley to apply our yearly done of dust control spray which is usually scheduled for early summer.
Trash Cans
The City places over 40 trash cans in different location to help with litter control. Most of the cans are in the downtown area but we have others placed in areas around the schools and bus stops where litter seems to accumulate. These cans are emptied on a weekly schedule.
Seasonal Decorations
The City likes to celebrate the seasons and special events happening in town. Street crews hang event banners over Pine Street for each upcoming event as well as hang Christmas decorations, Red White & Blue decorations for the 4th of July, and the Cowboy/Cowgirl silhouettes for the rodeo.
Traffic Signals
The traffic signal lights in Central Point are owned by the City but are maintained by ODOT. If you notice any malfunction of any traffic signal, please report it directly to the Police Department or Public Works so we can notify ODOT for repair the same day. Any non-working crosswalk lights can be reported to Public Works for repair.
Annual Leaf Pickup
The City has contracted with Rogue Disposal to pick up all the bagged leaves in our neighborhoods. This is usually done twice a year; first in mid to late November and again early to mid December. Check the City newsletter or the website for the pickup dates.
