The Utility Worker I provides a variety of general labor duties for the Public Works Department maintenance and construction crews and serve as secondary level or back-up equipment operator in the installation, repair, maintenance and construction of the City's Public Works infrastructure.
The Utility Worker II provides a variety of general and skilled laborer duties for the Public Works Department maintenance and construction crews and serves as first level or primary equipment operator in the installation, repair, maintenance and construction of the City's Public Works infrastructure.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT JOB DUTY REQUIREMENTS:
RESIDENCY: Within 180 days of hire employee will establish residence no more than 45 minute response time from the City Service Center. (235 S. Haskell St.)
WATER DIVISION: Must have cell phone reception and the ability to respond within 45 minutes to City Public Works facility at 235 S. Haskell St., Central Point for emergency callbacks and/or future On-Call rotation.
UTILITY WORKER I - CDL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record at the time of hire required; and within eight (8) months of hire possession of an unrestricted Oregon CDL "A" with endorsements required to drive equipment to perform the duties of this position and these must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
UTILITY WORKER II - CDL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid CDL "A" unrestricted with air brake and tanker endorsement or higher at hire with an acceptable driving record per City policy is required; and within six (6) months of hire obtain any other endorsements required to drive equipment to perform the duties of this position; and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
UTILITY WORKER I minimum requirements:

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Some manual labor/general construction experience
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math at a 12th grade level
- English skills sufficient to communicate instructions and safety information
- Possession of current CPR/ First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire
- Flagger Control certification card within ten (10) months of hire
UTILITY WORKER II minimum requirements:
- Possession of a valid CDL "A" unrestricted with air brake and tanker endorsement or higher AT HIRE with an acceptable driving record per City policy is required; and within six (6) months of hire obtain any other endorsements required to drive equipment to perform the duties of this position; and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least three years of general construction experience including the ability to calculate slopes and grade elevations or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience determined to ensure the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the work.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math at a 12th grade level
- English skills sufficient to communicate instructions and safety information
- Possession of current CPR/ First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire
- Flagger Control certification card within ten (10) months of hire
PREFERRED/SPECIAL:
- Public Works Construction Experience is strongly preferred (water/storm drain/streets/parks)
- Flagger certification preferred at hire
- Traffic Control Supervisor certification preferred at hire
- Air brake and tanker endorsement on CDL "A" preferred at hire
Pay and benefits are negotiated and codified in a collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 223. A copy of the current Union contract can be found HERE
UTILITY WORKER I SALARY:
$3,767 - $4,808 per month + any applicable incentive pay (max of extra $450/month)
Base Wage hourly equivalent $21.73 - $27.74, Grade 4P-NC – Grade 4P of the Compensation Pay Plan
Employee will remain at Step A until they receive the required CDL A, then would be placed at the appropriate step based on experience & pay equity.
UTILITY WORKER II SALARY (Must meet experience & CDL requirements at hire):
$4,030 - $5,401 per month + any applicable incentive pay (max of extra $450/month)
Base Wage hourly equivalent $23.25 - $31.16, Grade "5P" of the Compensation Pay Plan. DOE.
Incentive Pay available for additional Certification, Education and Bilingual ability up to a maximum of $450 extra per month. Based on current collective bargaining agreement and eligibility.
