My Veteran / My Hero Tribute Tree Program*

My Veteran / My Hero Tribute Tree Program

The Central Point Parks and Recreation Department is proud to offer the My Veteran / My Hero Tribute Tree program. For a donation of $450, this program offers residents the opportunity to celebrate a veteran/hero in their life through the purchase and planting of a tree. Each tree donation will include a 4” by 4” metal plaque that will be attached to a post near the tree. The plaque will provide the name of the veteran and a QR code that will link to a city webpage. This webpage will provide biographical information and a photo of the veteran provided by the family . A link to the online application and veteran's biograph page are located at the bottom of the page.  Application deadlines each year are as follows: Fall planting - September 15 and Spring planting - March 15. Any donated funds remaining after purchase of materials may be used to support Central Point Parks.

Initially, the program will be limited to Don Jones Memorial Park. The location will be a good fit for the My Veteran / My Hero Tribute Tree program since it is home to both the Oregon Fallen War Heroes Memorial and the Dennis Richardson Memorial. Trees will be planted in locations near to the memorials. This area will be dedicated as our "Heroes Grove." As the program grows, the city wmay expand it to other appropriate park locations.

The following trees have been recommended by the Central Point city arborist for this program (click on link to find more details and pictures of the trees):

Donors will be able to select trees other than those listed above but the selected tree will need to be approved by the city arborist and donation may increase depending on cost of that specific tree. Trees will be planted by park maintenance staff and the city will guarantee survival for two years after planting.

If you would like to donate a tribute tree, please fill out the online application form that can be accessed through the link below. After your application has been submitted and approved, park staff will contact you to take care of payment either with a credit card, check, or cash. For more information about the program contact Dave Jacob, Park Planner at 541-423-1012 or dave.jacob@centralpointoregon.gov.
