Support your community by getting involved!
The Central Point Council encourages citizen participation in shaping our community. One of the key elements of any community is characterized by the commitment of is elected officials, appointed leaders, and involvement by citizens.
By joining a program or committee in the city of Central Point, you are giving yourself a chance to be heard and make decisions that will impact the community for years to come. What better way to give something back to the community then to be an active member in the city’s decision making process?
There are various ways to volunteer and get involved.
Commissions
The Parks and Recreation Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to parks and recreation activities. The Commission is responsible for helping plan and improve current and future recreational facilities, which can then be enjoyed by the entire community. There are seven members of this committee and they meet on a quarterly basis.
The Planning Commission acts to provide recommendations to the city council regarding city growth, development, housing, and most aspects of urban development. The Planning Commission consists of seven members who are not officials or employees of the city. Planning Commission Members serve four year terms. This is a great way to become involved in Central Point’s continued growth. This committee consists of 7 members who meet the first Tuesday of every month.
Committees
Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
This committee works to further citizen involvement in all phases of the planning process as it pertains to the comprehensive plan. The committee advises the city council on matters such as housing, schools, parks, art, culture, and other matters of general public interest. The CAC consists of seven members and meets on a quarterly basis or as needed.
The Budget Committee consists of the seven Council Members and seven citizens of Central Point. This committee is charged with approving a budget for the City of Central Point from the purchase of parks to street maintenance. This committee meets in the spring in order to have a budget ready for Council adoption in June.
The Multicultural Committee represents issues of economic, social, and cultural interest for Central Point’s growing multicultural community. This committee is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and researching diverse, cultural, economic and social issues within our community. The committee is advisory to the Council with 7 members who meet on a quarterly basis.
Joining one of these committees is a great way to help mold your city and community so you can be proud to say “I live in Central Point and I helped make it a great place to live”.
All Committee members are appointed by the Mayor and Council. Meeting dates and terms vary depending on the committee.

Parks & Recreation Events
Central Point Parks and Recreation has several events throughout the year that depend on reliable volunteers to help create fun and memorable events for families who attend.
Police Programs
Explorer Post Program
The Explorer Post Program provides an opportunity for younger citizens of Central Point to assist their community by aiding public safety officers with tasks such as traffic control and crowd control at city events. Explorers attend monthly meetings where training in related fields of law enforcement is provided. Additionally Explorers are involved in D.A.R.E activities and assisting full time officers.
Volunteers in Police Service Program (VIPS)
Volunteers in VIPS provide additional support to law enforcement officers by helping enhance police responsiveness, service delivery, and information input. Volunteers can look forward to helping out wherever they are best fitted as volunteers are given tasks and duties best suited to their skills. While volunteers are not sworn officers they bring new life and enthusiasm to the police department.
